Bah Humbugs

Following a number of nostalgic conversations with friends about childhood sweets, Bah Humbugs, based in Masham, North Yorkshire, was launched in 2004 by proprietor Lucy Scott Paul. “Sweets evoke such happy memories for everyone, and we couldn’t believe it when we realised that all the sweets we loved as children seemed to have disappeared. After some investigation we discovered the sweets were actually still being made, so i decided to open a haven for all sweet fanatics – and Bah Humbugs was born!”

The online shop was launched in March 2005 to satisfy the demand for repeat orders from regular customers in the UK and now Bah Humbugs has a large loyal Worldwide customer base.

The Requirement
Bah Humbugs came to Pink Digital via WiRE (Women in Rural Enterprise) in early 2005 after having an unsuccessful foray into online sales with another web company. The primary aim of the project was to develop another revenue stream for the Bah Humbugs sweet shop to carry the business through the quieter times of the year, after their tourist trade has left.

The Project
Pink Digital developed an online store using our E-commerce solution, developing a new online brand incorporating new offline branding into a site that was simple and intuitive to use to keep the entire site up to date as simply and efficiently as possible. Using the Pink Digital content management system and ecommerce solution, Bah Humbugs can add, delete and edit their products; add product images with automatic resizing and thumbnail creation and easily manage pricing, options and delivery costs. Items can be searched by category or keyword and sales can be monitored all using a single browser based interface.

The Results
Over the past three years the Pink Digital E-commerce solutions has transformed the Bah Humbugs site from a static site taking virtually no orders to a site that in the Christmas sales period in 2006 took substantial amounts in UK and International sales, this then increased in volume again in 2007 and 2008.

Top 10 results are achieved in Google for the majority of the 200+ products in the Bah Humbugs range. The site has gone from strength-to-strength and has been featured in many high-end publications including recommendations from the Times Coolhunter and Good Food Magazine.

Testimonial
‘I’ve been working with Naughty Mutt and Pink Digital for the last five years and have been thoroughly impressed with their quick, efficient and professional service. The website they have created and maintained for me has proved to be an invaluable part of my business and I would encourage anyone looking to invest in an e-commerce website to use Pink Digital. They certainly won’t be disappointed.’
