The Furniture Market: Building a Scalable E-commerce Platform

The Furniture Market is a growing retailer with huge ambition. But their digital operation wasn’t set up to match it. The e-commerce department was struggling to keep pace, and the systems in place weren’t built for scale.

That’s where I stepped in.

A Platform That Couldn’t Deliver

When I began working with The Furniture Market, the business was running on a half-finished Magento 1 build. Development had stalled and progressed slowly over a number of years. The e-commerce team were doing their best, but the setup simply wasn’t giving them the tools they needed.

The business was ready to grow. The platform wasn’t.

Replatforming with Purpose

My first move was to stabilise what was already there. I completed the Magento 1 build and brought development in-house to create more control and visibility. But it was clear that a bigger shift was needed.

So I led a complete replatform to Magento 2. This was more than an upgrade — it was about giving the business the foundations to scale.

I integrated BrightPearl to tighten up stock management and order processing. I built a custom V12 Finance gateway, and delivered a responsive, modern front end using HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, Knockout.js and Less.

The result was a stable, secure, and flexible platform — one that could support the business long-term.

Making Operations Work Harder

Beyond the website, day-to-day operations were slowing things down. Delivery route planning took hours of manual work. Order fulfilment involved duplication and delays.

I focused on streamlining.

An advanced logistics system replaced manual route planning, reducing hours of work to seconds. I also built a bespoke PHP app to connect BrightPearl ERP directly with Expert Logistics. Orders flowed automatically, speeding up fulfilment and removing unnecessary admin.

The Outcome

By the end of the project, The Furniture Market had a digital operation that matched its ambition.

  • A modern, responsive Magento 2 platform.

  • Seamless BrightPearl integration for stock and order control.

  • Smarter logistics and fulfilment processes.

  • A team equipped with systems designed to support growth.

The business moved from being limited by its technology to being empowered by it.

Why It Worked

Because this wasn’t about patching what already existed. It was about rebuilding properly.

The e-commerce department had been constrained by outdated systems. By introducing a new platform, better integrations, and smarter workflows, I gave them the tools to move forward with confidence.

Fresh thinking. Clear direction. Strong execution. That combination made the difference.

Looking Ahead

The Furniture Market is now in a position to grow without being held back by its technology. Its platform can scale, its operations are more efficient, and its e-commerce team can focus on driving the business forward instead of fighting with outdated processes.

That’s the real outcome: not just a better website, but a stronger business.
